Inspired by the story of my grandmother and her early life of sharecropping, I wanted to explore the ongoing relationship between cotton and Black Americans and its effect on the global economy. Through a series of large woodcuts and lithography, I wanted to connect the consumerism of cotton with the younger generation with the production of cotton with the past generation. The exploitation by the cotton industry of Black Americans is still the same as it was then, just from the other side.
